The October 2023 edition of the RGN Commodore 64 (C64) Round Up featuring the latest game releases, pixel art, demo and add-on items.

The Commodore 128 has a highly accurate Commodore 64 mode built into it. Because of the huge games library for the C64, some C128s spent most of their time in C64 mode despite all the "real computer" advantages the C128 mode has. But C64 mode on the C128 is not perfect and some games will not work on it. In this video we'll show several examples, and where possible, provide explanations and fixes for the failures.

'Midnight Crimes' is a game for VIC-20 with 24k RAM expansion minimum. It is 1933 and prohibition is about to end. Organized crime syndicates are flooding the black market with their product and it is making them exorbitant profits one last time. At the very same moment Eliot Ness and his Untouchables find themselves in a battle of survival in the city. You are one of these untouchables and you have to get to the criminals before they get to you. You can get the game as digital download for a bargain to support the developer.

The updates continue within the GTW64 archives with the following additions and updates: 7 new entries added as well as a strange (early?) version of Poltergeist, we have a number of previously unpreserved Hungarian games thanks to Csaba Virag and also some new titles. 'Lancess Priya' is a game inspired by the Atari's "Star Wars" coin-op (1983), but with characters instead of vectors. this an adaptation from the same author of the C64 version (Dr. TerrorZ, who also brought us 'Digiloi' and 'Fort Django'), which won the WiLD Demo Competition at Vammala Party 2023.

'Kung Fu Flash' is a cartridge for the Commodore 64 by Kim Jorgensen that packs a punch. It can emulate different cartridge types, load PRG files and use D64 disk images. Just place your desired CRT, PRG or D64 files on a FAT formatted microSD card and use the built-in launcher to execute them. 'Magic Math' is a small mathematical skill game, which is also suitable for 2 players and compo. In this game you control a small rectangle with which you have to catch passing numbers. This video shows the first presentation of 'Krogharr' for the Amiga OCS range of computers (Amiga 500, 1000, 600, 3000) and upwards. Game runs in steady 50 fps on every vanilla machine with 512k/512, so please tick the "1080p60fps quality" option in the video viewer to see the smoothness. Music and sound effects are muted, and you might see some tiny glitches here and there, since it's still heavy W.I.P.

Great news at 'Games That Weren't 64' (GTW64): A bonus post to finish the week. Recently Fabrizio Bartoloni flagged up someone called BloodyCactus looking at an unreleased C64 adventure game called 'The Mermaid and the Crown'. Whilst looking into details to try and add entries onto the site, via the CASA Solution Archive we found that there were about 5 other adventure titles by Mountain Valley Software that were also never completed and released. These are: 'The Curse of Cranbury Manor', 'Sorcerers of Ravenswood', 'Crypt', 'Ophir' and 'Treasure of Dead Man’s Cay'.
