It seems to be increasingly forgotten that the compact cassette wasn't just used with personal computers in the UK, but was an integral part of the USA (and Canadian) experience for many up until the mid-1980s before disk became the data storage format of choice. Today we look through Robin's collection of North American-released software on tape, and the computers that use it, from the 1977 trinity of TRS-80, Apple II and Commodore PET, through to the Commodore 64, Coleco ADAM and Tomy Tutor.

30.03.2021 - 'Turbo Chameleon' Core update 9n released
'Chameleon' is an extremely user-friendly multipurpose C64 cartridge that can be used without opening the computer. It is just plugged to the expansion port of the C64. It can also be operated as a stand-alone unit (since it's basically an FPGA computer like the C-One in a C64 cartridge case), replacing the computer, the floppy drive and the heavy power supply. A docking station providing 4 joystick ports and connectors for an Amiga or C-64 keyboard is available. New in this core: Menu System: - added some Monitor features: - The monitor now allows to scroll forward/backward with some commands by using the cursor keys (line by line) or F1/F7 (page by page). - added 'i' command to show/edit memory as screencode. - added 'j' command to show/edit memory as petscii

29.03.2021 - Video footage shows two Amiga games in the making: 'DaemonClaw' and 'MetroSiege'
Here's a progress report for two current projects from BitBeamCannon: 'Metro Siege' is a retro 16-bit pixel art brawler game being built from the ground-up with a custom engine that not only runs on modern systems, but on classic Amiga computers. 'DaemonClaw: Origins of Nnar' is a 16-bit side scrolling arcade-style action game being made using Construct 3. The game adheres to Amiga specs and may eventually have a classic Amiga port as well.

King’s Valley is a platform game released by Konami for MSX in 1985. Now it's announced to coming for Amiga soon (and for free). Watch the trailer for first impressions. The game plays like Lode Runner, but takes place in Egyptian pyramids. As an intrepid adventurer, the player's goal is to collect various gems, while evading angry mummies and other monsters long enough to find the exit to the next level.

The C64 Graphics Maker (v0.12.1b) is a graphics editor for Windows that can create native C64 graphics. Some of the features: - MDI Application; - Supported characters mode: Standard Character Mode (SCM), Multi Color Mode (MCM), Extended background Color Mode (ECM); - Supported sprites mode: monocolor, multicolor; - Supported bitmap cells (named "Blockset") with mode: monocolor, multicolor (you can also use it to import a full screen bitmap, BUT be aware that there is no proper fullscreen bitmap editor inside the software, the blockset are treated just like characters); - Editing of multiple characters/sprites/blocks displaced in a grid (with ability to mix mono and multicolor characters); - and many more...

27.03.2021 - GTW blog post: Unfinished Amiga game 'Blork' - preview appeard
Blork was a very stylish underwater shooter being created by the demo group Scienide around the mid-late 90s, where you control a cute fish main character and his octopus friend within a very dark and gloomy underwater world. Development was by Ply2, with music by Exodus and graphics by Blork and Nytech. A preview of the game is available from Scienide’s website, containing around 3 levels in total.
