YAPE is a decent no-nonsense Plus/4 emulator thats being developed for 10+ years. It is available in Windows as well as multiplatform editions. A much anticipated new bugfix release. Alas, the previous one introduced some really nasty regression bugs which had to be ironed out: - D82 image support in IEC mode, - automatic line feed bug fixed in MPS801/803 mode, - re-enabled attach disk image in 1551 mode, - sound device selection fix, - TED sound frequency regression fix, - monitor opcode cache clear on memory overwrite

This port is very close to the original and even offers a highscore table and a good amount of options to vary the gameplay. The game runs perfectly on both PAL and NTSC models of the Commodore 64. You can get the game as digital download for little money (name your own price) to support the developer.

'Vigilante' is a 1988 beat 'em up arcade video game. It is considered as a spiritual sequel to Irem's earlier Kung-Fu Master. There is work going on to port the Sega Master System version to Amiga and with V0.5 of the demo version there are lots of improvments, like added parallax scrolling to level 2, 3, 4 and 5, improved enemies AI and various optimizations and bugfixes. Don't forget to drop some coins for the developer Neeso Games to get him going, when downloading the demo files.

Today we look at how Robin went about optimizing the BASIC code written way back in 1979 by Hiroshi Suzuki in Japan for his ground-breaking Commodore PET 2001 game called Manbiki Shounen, aka Shoplifting Boy. We'll go step by step through all the changes from the original, and learn quite a bit about how the gameplay was implemented in this possibly first-ever stealth video game. After going through the code, we'll quickly adapt the code to run on a Commodore 64 and take advantage of the Faster 64 variable profiler to add an extra layer of optimizing.
