04.08.2021 - Worst 8-Bit Book Club Book Ever? The Black Book of C-128 - new Video from '8-Bit Show And Tell'
Commodore News - cascade64.de - external linkFor this month's Book Club video, we look at the worst Commodore-related book in my collection: The Black Book of C-128, by Robert H. & Dell Taylor. Claiming to be a vast, authoritative reference, it's actually riddled with errors, unnecessary commas, and sometimes entirely fabricated "facts". We all make mistakes, and typically I'd go easier on it, but this book's advertising campaign was quite aggressive, claiming to be "the best reference manual on the market" and having "not one wasted page" unlike other publisher's books that would tell you "how to un-pack the C-128" and waste "ten pages on what the keys are for".

All of that made it possible to run at stable 60 fps gameplay on The Vampire V4.

01.08.2021 - Video shows possible port of 'Kung Fu Master' for Amiga
Commodore News - cascade64.de - external linkA few days ago the developer started working on arranging the graphics for the game and also doing a performance test to make sure the game can be ported to the A500 (0.5chip + 0.5 slow). He is pleased to say the game looks very do-able so he'll take it on. Thomas is a hardware sprite but the flying enemies are constructed from multiple bobs to save on ram and cycles.

28.07.2021 - Size Optimizing Tricks in 10 PRINT Orthogonal for Commodore 64 - new Video from '8-Bit Show And Tell'
Commodore News - cascade64.de - external linkWe look at a new take on the famous 10 PRINT program, which makes an orthogonal (at right angles to the screen) maze instead of the classic diagonal maze. Additionally, it's been optimized down to a 32 byte file size for entry in a competition. It turns out there are some complications with the tricks used when run on a real Commodore 64. So we dig into it to figure out what's going on and end up discussing BASIC program structure, how PRG files are stored on disk, and how real C64 RAM initializes differently than on C64 emulators.
27.07.2021 - Amiga CD32 FMV Failure! This thing is a mess, can it be saved? - new video from 'RMC'
Commodore News - cascade64.de - external linkIn an era of failed console and computer releases the CD32 is up there. It had potential but ultimately was too little, too late. What's even more obscure than failed consoles is failed peripherals for failed consoles and this FMV module is just such an example. Costing nearly the same price as the console itself it promised smooth MPEG1 playback of videos. Looking at the condition of it however that's unlikely. Lets see if we can repair it.
