Commodore News - cascade64.de - external link'Roguish' for the VIC-20 is as the name suggests a roguelike game (or rather a "roguish"-like game - with permanent death, generative-enough, more or less unlimited). You can get the game as digital download for a bargain (name your own price). Features: - Unlimited random rooms, generated in random order from templates with random items, with increasingly numerous and dangerous goblins. - Combat system uses attack (shield) and defence (sword) abilities (yours and your opponent's) to calculate damage. - Enemies use hunt / random walk.

The game is free for download. The link above is for the Plus/4 version, the C64 version can be obtained here, and the VIC-20 here.

Commodore News - cascade64.de - external link'Midnight Crimes' is a game for VIC-20 with 24k RAM expansion minimum. It is 1933 and prohibition is about to end. Organized crime syndicates are flooding the black market with their product and it is making them exorbitant profits one last time. At the very same moment Eliot Ness and his Untouchables find themselves in a battle of survival in the city. You are one of these untouchables and you have to get to the criminals before they get to you. You can get the game as digital download for a bargain to support the developer.

We demonstrate using the file browser and auto-detect RAM expansion capabilities to play games from an SD2IEC drive that require 0K, 3K, and 35K expansions. We demonstrate use of ALL the utilities built-in: VICMON machine language monitor, VICKIT assembler, Super Expander BASIC enhancement, BASIC 4 disk commands, CBM Command disk manager, VIC Forth, VICTERM (special appearance by Michael Doornbos of imapenguin.com with his KIM-1 clone), diagnostic tools and even more. Tynemouth Software and The Future Was 8-Bit have teamed up to make the Penultimate+2 cartridge which contains over 200 VIC-20 games spanning from the original games made in Japan by Hal Laboratory in 1980 to modern games made in the present day. In addition it contains useful utilities, programming languages, diagnostic tools, flexible software-controlled RAM upgrades and even more. In this first video we have a look at a fraction of the games available. We'll follow up in another video with a detailed look at all the rest of the cartridge's features.

Puzzle through 64 levels in this nibbler style game by guiding your ever-growing worm; make sure to eat all the tomatoes before you run out of room to move. The Plus/4 disk image for download also contains the VIC-20 version.

After a long and winding road your search has led you to a place called the Black Lodge. You now have to play a game of video poker. Get a full house and keep the code, it could become useful later (literally for use in another game).

06.04.2023 - 'Radar Rat Race' for Plus/4 and C16 released - free for download
Commodore News - cascade64.de - external link'Radar Rat Race' is a modified clone of an arcade classic released in 1980 by Namco, called Rally-X. It was first developed for the VIC-20 by HAL Laboratories in Japan, but soon enough, Namco's corporate lawyers convinced Commodore that it would not be such a good idea to release any unlicensed arcade games. So Commodore's software engineers went on and transformed the cars into rats, the streets into a maze filled with stationary cats, and renamed the game 'Radar Rat Race'. The game was a launch title for the VIC-20 released as a cartridge and was later also ported to the C64 in 1982. Game journalists at the time criticized the game's controls and repetitive sound, but called it "quite exciting and amusing to play."

Commodore News - cascade64.de - external link'Murderlize all Humans!' for VIC20 (+16k) is a game leaned on Berserk, the well known arcade game from 1980 by Stern Electronics. It was one of the first arcade games to feature synthesized speech. This was at a time when memory costs were at a premium. 'Murdelize all humans' uses Berserk! as inspiration but does not attempt to copy it.
